Congratulations to every single student in 2003-2004 for meeting the Swim Challenge. (It took 6 weeks for the purple dye to finally fade!)
The Swim Challenge was a personal challenge negotiated every year at the beginning of the year with my students for all of my English and Reading classes in Texas who took the TAKS. This particular year, if EVERY SINGLE student improved his/her state test score by 5% or more, I had to dye my hair purple. After a year of hard work, every single student in every class I taught improved. Many students scored in the nineties and several students worked so hard that their individual scores jumped by more than 40% from the previous year.
